About the Department:
The Department of Political Science at Model Degree College, Nuapada, stands as a hub of intellectual growth, critical thinking, and academic excellence. Since its inception, the department has been dedicated to nurturing a deep understanding of Political Theories, Indian Constitution, Governance, Public Policy, and International Relations, and India’s Foreign Policies.
With a vibrant student strength of approximately 130 and a team of three committed faculty members, the department offers a dynamic learning environment. Our curriculum is designed not just to impart theoretical knowledge but to inspire analytical thinking, debate, and research on contemporary socio-political issues. Through interactive discussions, field studies, and scholarly engagement, we encourage students to question, analyse, and contribute meaningfully to the evolving social order.
Beyond the classroom, the department periodically organizes seminars, workshops, and awareness programs on constitutional values, governance, and policy-making process. We encourage students for critical thinking, research, and active class room engagement, for preparing careers in academia, civil services, law, and public administration and fostering leadership qualities and civic responsibility among students.

Political Science (Honours)/ (Major)

Political Science (General)/ Minor
The General course provides a broad overview of political science and is designed for students who wish to study political science as part of a broader curriculum. It covers key aspects of Governance, Constitution, Human Rights, and Institutions and Institutionalism.

Dr. Uttam K. Mandal, Assistant Professor & HoD
Dr. Uttam K. Mandal is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Model Degree College, Nuapada, Odisha. He holds degrees of MA, MPhil, and PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, one of India’s premier institutions. He is qualified UGC-NET and JRF and the prestigious ICSSR Doctoral Fellowship, as these are his recognizing commitment for scholarly excellence.
With extensively near about more than 7 years of teaching experience, Dr. Uttam K. Mandal has been a part of Model Degree College, Nuapada, since 2023. Over the years, he has contributed significantly to the field of political science through his research and scholarly publications, with approximately 17 research papers and 2 book chapters to his credit. His areas of expertise include Political Philosophy, Constitutionalism, Political Participation, Federalism, Governance, International Relations, and India’s Foreign Policy.
Dr. Uttam K. Mandal is deeply engaged in academic research, coursework, and policy-oriented studies. He actively participates in various national and international conferences, presenting insightful papers on pressing political and socio-economic concerns. Apart from his academic contributions, he plays a key role in mentoring students, fostering critical thinking, and promoting research-driven learning.
