Model Degree College, Nuapada is a public institution located in the district of Nuapada,found in the western boarder of Odisha. Model Degree College, Nuapada was established in the year 2016 as part of a broader initiative by the Government of Odisha to improve access to quality higher education in underserved regions of the state. Established with the aim of expanding access to quality undergraduate education in the region, the college stands out as one of the fastest-growing government degree college in the district. It offers a diverse range of 17 specialized undergraduate programs across multiple academic streams, including Science, Accounting &Commerce and Humanities & Social Sciences. This institution plays a vital role in meeting the educational needs of students from both urban and rural backgrounds, contributing significantly to the academic and socioeconomic development of this area.
This project received financial support from both the Central and State Governments. The Central Government provided the primary funding for infrastructure and academic development, while the State Government of Odishacontributed land and committed to bearing the recurring operational costs. The scheme was implemented through the RastriyaUchchatarSikshaAbhiyan (RUSA), a flagshipnational higher education reform program aimed at improving access, equity, and quality in state higher educational institutions across India. The college began its academic activities in the year 2016-17.The curriculum was designed to meet the educational needs of students from diverse academic interests and backgrounds, particularly those from the surrounding rural and tribal communities.Initially this institution offered 11 undergraduate programs across the disciplines of Arts, Science, and Commerce. These foundational courses included: Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, Education, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, Sociology, and Zoology. As part of its continuous academic expansion and in response to growing student demand, the college introduced six additional undergraduate programs in the year 2023 including Computer Science, English, Library Science, History, Odia, and Psychology. These courses have further enriched the academic offerings of the institution, providing students with more opportunities for specialization and interdisciplinary learning.
