The Department of Zoology at Model Degree College, Nuapada (MDCN) was established in 2016 with the primary aim of promoting excellence in the field of biological sciences. Since its inception, the department has focused on providing a strong academic foundation along with research-oriented training to undergraduate students. It plays a vital role in fostering scientific curiosity and preparing students for careers in science, research, education, and environmental conservation.

The Zoology laboratory is well-equipped with a wide range of instruments essential for teaching and research. Key equipment includes:
- Bacteriological Incubator for microbial culture studies
- Bench-top Centrifuge for sample separation
- Spectrophotometer and Chromatography Chamber for biochemical analysis
- Compound and Dissecting Microscopes for detailed cellular and anatomical observation
- Microtome for preparing thin tissue sections
- UV Transilluminator and Electrophoretic Units (Vertical & Horizontal) for DNA/RNA and protein analysis
- pH Meter, EC/TDS/Temperature Meter for environmental studies
- Serological Water Bath for controlled incubation
