National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a central sector scheme of the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, launched in 1969. It provides students with an opportunity to participate in community service activities and programs. The primary objective of NSS is to develop students’ personalities and character through voluntary community service, guided by the principle of “Education through Service.” The motto of the NSS is “Not Me But You.”
The NSS unit of Model Degree College, Nuapada, started on January 18, 2023. Currently, the unit has 100 volunteers who promote community service, leadership, and social responsibility among students. Under the guidance of Principal Dr. Akshaya Kumar Sahoo and Program Officer Mr. Surendra Kalet, Assistant Professor of Sociology, the unit conducts outreach programs addressing social, environmental, and health-related concerns.
Key initiatives include plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, plastic-free campus programs, and health & hygiene awareness such as blood donation camps and menstrual hygiene programs. The NSS also organizes social awareness drives on gender equality, women’s empowerment, drug abuse prevention, anti-ragging, and road safety. These programs foster civic sense, ethical behaviour, and leadership.
Youth Red Cross Unit (YRC)
The Youth Red Cross (YRC) is a program of the Indian Red Cross Society that develops young people into leaders and advocates for humanitarian causes. It encourages service-mindedness, cleanliness, and hygiene while cultivating leadership and character.
YRC activities include blood donation drives, supporting individuals with physical disabilities, and hosting events for students in orphanages and for the visually impaired. The YRC unit of Model Degree College, Nuapada, is one of the most active in Odisha. It organizes marches and rallies on World AIDS Day, conducts seminars and workshops on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and promotes awareness to reduce stigma and discrimination.
Sports
Sports play an essential role in the holistic growth and development of students. Participation fosters teamwork, leadership, patience, and self-confidence, preparing students for real-life challenges. Through sports, students enhance both physical and mental capabilities.
Model Degree College, Nuapada, had a vibrant and successful sports season during 2024–25 with enthusiastic participation in inter-college and university-level competitions. The college celebrated National Sports Day in honour of Major Dhyan Chand by organizing football, carrom, chess, badminton, and tug of war. The Annual Athletic Meet 2024–25 included events like discus throw, javelin, shot put, and 100m–800m races. Students earned recognition in inter-college tournaments in football, chess, kabaddi, and cricket.

Laboratories provide hands-on training and practical exposure, bridging the gap between theory and real-world applications. Model Degree College, Nuapada, has modern laboratories in Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Education, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Zoology.

College Smart Classrooms, Virtual Classroom & Language Lab
Smart classrooms integrate technology such as interactive whiteboards, projectors, internet, and digital learning tools to create engaging learning environments. Model Degree College, Nuapada, has three smart classrooms, one virtual classroom, and a dedicated language lab. These facilities enhance digital literacy and prepare students for a technology-driven world.
College Magazine – Bahubarna
The annual college magazine, Bahubarna, celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Nuapada through literary contributions from students and staff in Odia, Hindi, and English. It symbolizes art, culture, and literature of the region. The first issue was published in 2024–25 under the editorship of Dr. Shreekanta Kumar Barik (Odia), Dr. Shiv Kumar (Anthropology), Dr. Subhas Ch. Biswal (Zoology), and Mr. Rajesh Patra (English), under the guidance of Principal Dr. Akshaya Kumar Sahoo.

College Hostels
The College provides accommodation for about 100 boarders — 60 boys and 40 girls — in two separate hostels located within the campus. The Principal is the final authority on all hostel matters.
College Library and Library Rules
The college library, located on the first floor, houses about 1,851 books and remains open from 10:30 AM to 5 PM on working days. It provides both reference materials and textbooks to students and staff.
Key rules include:
- Books can be borrowed between 11 AM and 4:30 PM.
- Borrowers are responsible for the condition of issued books.
- Books must be returned before the summer vacation or final examination.
- Overdue fines apply at Rs. 1 per book per day.
- Damaged or lost books must be replaced or paid for (up to 10x catalogue price).
- Silence must be observed inside the library.
- Mobile phones, umbrellas, and personal belongings are not permitted inside.
WiFi Internet Service
A centralized high-speed Wi-Fi system is active across the campus for use by offices, departments, and students.
