Since ancient times, sports have been regarded as a vital means of maintaining both physical and mental health. In the modern educational context, sports play an essential role in the holistic growth and development of students. Participation in various sports fosters life skills such as teamwork, leadership, accountability, patience, and self-confidence. These qualities prepare students to face real-life challenges effectively. Through sports, students enhance their physical and mental capabilities, which ultimately aids them in achieving personal and professional goals. The significance of sports is evident in the numerous national and international events held around the world, where athletes represent their countries and demonstrate their talents on a global stage. From an early age, the incorporation of sports into the educational curriculum helps students build a solid physical and mental foundation. At the primary level, exposure to physical activities ensures that students develop discipline, focus, and resilience skills that are beneficial throughout life. Model Degree College, Nuapada had a vibrant and successful sports season during the last academic year 2024-25 with enthusiastic student participation at college, inter-college, and university-level competitions held at various venues. The college showcased its strong commitment to promoting sports through the celebration of National Sports Day, in honour of Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary, by organizing events such as football, carrom, chess, badminton, and tug of war for both men and women. Further highlighting its dedication to athletics, the college conducted the Annual Athletic Meet 2024-25, which featured events including tug of war, discus throw, javelin throw, shot put, and 100m, 200m, and 800m races in both categories. Students displayed remarkable energy and sportsmanship throughout the year, earning recognition and prizes in several inter-college tournaments, specifically in football, chess/carrom, and kabaddi at MMU, Bhawanipatna, and in cricket and tug of war at National College, Nuapada.
